Introduction to Digital Synthesis @ Comfort Station
Hello! Thank you for your interest in attending Introduction to Digital Synthesis with Dan Derks, happening at Comfort Station (2579 N MILWAUKEE AVE, CHICAGO) on Saturday April 27th from 1p-4p!

Together, we'll learn the fundamentals of making and shaping sound through VCV Rack, a free software modular synthesizer. We’ll cover the basics of the program’s interface, dig into signal flow and mixing, and explore techniques for creating modulation and changing timbre. This workshop is perfect for those curious about modular synthesis, digital music making, and sound design.

This workshop is great for beginners as well as seasoned pros -- it was designed for people with all levels of musical and digital art-making experience.

There will also be a performance following the workshop, at 7p, at the same venue -- Dan will join Zander Raymond for a duo performance, preceding a celebration of Andrew CS's new record. It'll be such a nice lil' night of ambient and exploratory sound!

Prerequisites:

  • personal laptop with the free version of VCV Rack 2 installed: vcvrack (please install ahead of time, as there will not be WIFI available on-site)
  • personal wired headphones
