Making the Case for Community-Engaged Work in Your Review and Promotion Materials - Workshop RSVP
The Center for Social Impact will be hosting a screening of this workshop offered by the Coalition for Community Writing on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH, 1:30PM-3:30PM IN CANISIUS 200.

Workshop Description

There are many resources available that help community-engaged teachers and scholars to frame, prepare and showcase their work in their review and promotion materials. However, the work we do is rich and diverse, the institutional contexts within which we operate are not easily generalizable, and unexpected challenges can often present themselves along the way. With these issues in mind, this 90-minute workshop will support participants to frame their specific review and promotion cases as a design challenge that involves understanding and mobilizing a complex and particular network of policies, documents, genres, compositional techniques, (inter)disciplinary norms, institutional cultures, tactical advocacy work, and allies on campus and beyond. During our time together, participants will:
  • Share challenges they face
  • Map the complex network of texts, policies, institutional norms, and people that shape their annual review, 3rd-year review, reappointment, and P&T journeys
  • Create a timeline of necessary steps prior to submission
  • Brainstorm next steps.
Both tenure-track and non-tenure track faculty are encouraged to attend: the workshop is designed for those negotiating either tenure and promotion or annual review and reappointment processes. The workshop will be facilitated by members of CCW’s Faculty Peer Mentoring Committee, which includes the following people:
  • Lisa Dush, DePaul University
  • Tobi Jacobi, Colorado State University
  • Aja Martinez, University of North Texas
  • Paula Mathieu, Boston College
  • Seán McCarthy, James Madison University
  • Maria Novotny, University of Wisconsin Milwaukee
  • Lauren Rosenberg, University of Texas El Paso
  • Sarah Stanley, University of Alaska Fairbanks
  • Don Unger, University of Mississippi

Note: in preparation for the workshop, the workshop organizers are asking that all participants review the article “The Role of Curation in Tenure and Promotion Documentation.”
