Attitudes of teachers and students towards the use of textbooks and authentic materials within a Modern Foreign Language classroom

My name is Alexandra McKenna, and I am a third-year student at Northumbria University carrying out research for my dissertation. My dissertation aims to investigate, and compare, the difference in attitude of teachers and students towards the use of textbooks and authentic materials in the classroom.

For this study, you will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire including a series of statements which indicate an opinion toward the use of textbooks and authentic materials. You will need to indicate to what level you agree with the statement using the Likert scale provided (for instance, 1 meaning strongly agree and 5 meaning strongly disagree). You will also be asked to supply some background information for a demographics page (such as your age, gender, language of study/expertise, years studying/teaching language, and what level of study you are at/what level of study you teach). This should only take you 5-10 minutes.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary, so if after reading this information you are no longer interested in participating, you are under no obligation to continue. Participation can be withdrawn at any time in the study and any information already collated will be removed, and erased, from the study.

In this study, you will not be asked any questions regarding any private or personal information that may be linked back to you. The data that you give will be kept confidential and anonymous. When the study is completed, the data will be destroyed.

If you have any further questions or if you wish to withdraw from the study, please feel free to contact me at the email below.
