The Jade robot is designed to teach children how to code in Scratch and C. It is equipped with light, object, line, and spectrometer sensors, in addition to an interactive screen where a student may control and program the robot. This workshop will introduce teachers to how Scratch coding with the Jade robot can be implemented into a classroom, both at the elementary and secondary levels. An introduction to Scratch coding will be provided during this workshop. Participants will also work through several STEM challenges using the Jade robot that can easily be conducted in their classroom. The mini-course will culminate with an interplanetary challenge in which the Jade robot will mimic the Mars rover, Curiosity, and be coded to collect specific Martian samples. No previous experience required.
