In this enlightening session, participants will learn how to critically examine and analyze classroom materials, from textbooks to literature, through an anti-bias anti-racist perspective. Gain the tools and insights necessary to create an inclusive and equitable literature environment that empowers students to challenge stereotypes and promote social justice through thoughtful reading and discussion. Participants will leave this session understanding how identity bias in books and eliminate white supremacist cultural standards from their classroom libraries.

OUR SPEAKER: 

AaLeiyah DeSimas is the founder of Ubuntu Consulting Co, a DEIB consulting firm, that strives to increase the capacity for individuals, schools, and organizations to foster a sense of belonging and celebrate their rich diversity through equity-centered initiatives. Previously, she served as the Equity and Inclusion Coordinator at Valley Montessori School. She holds a Montessori Credential in ECE and an ABAR Teaching Certificate from the American Montessori Society. AaLeiyah serves as an Emerging Leaders Fellow (Cohort 5), as a trustee for Tilton School, and volunteers as the DEI Project officer for the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (Youth).
