Absolute Beginners Swing Dance & Lindy Hop
Swing dance and Lindy Hop for the Absolute Beginner, no dance experience needed.

Come find out why Swing Dance called the "Happy Dance"! Bring with you a desire to have fun, enjoy yourself, express yourself and move your body and feet!
Learn all the basics you need to get yourself dancing on the social dance floor in one series of 6 lessons with our experienced and friendly teachers.
If you are a fan of swing music or early jazz music from the 30s and 40s, this is the dance for you.
Swing dance is an umbrella term for all the dances done to swing music, of which Lindy Hop is the partnered dance of the 1930s and 40s, sometimes called the Jitterbug but we teach here the African American style hence we use the Lindy Hop (and Lindy Hopper) as opposed to Jitterbug.

Whatever you need to get started to dance you will get from this class - what type of shoes, what type of clothes, where to get music and what type of music, basic steps, fun steps, jazz steps...

In class you will learn both roles to get a big picture perspective of the dance. Leaders are the one who create the steps and supply the force to get the dance going while the follows are the ones who express what the leaders try to create and add to the picture being created. Having knowledge of both roles at the basic level allows you to understand better what is needed by each role and will serve your dancing well in the longer term. It will also provide better balance in class, create a more equal atmosphere of exploration, allow students to find expression and creativity beyond the traditional gender roles and allow you to dance with anyone due to the ability to be both a leader and follower when at any given social, local or overseas!!

Classes are 1h and 30min on Fridays at 730pm.
