This year we have registered for the Curriculum Transformation Option
"Curriculum Transformation through a Social Justice Lens: Best suited for classroom teachers this program could focus on Common Core, teaching the history of the Holocaust, thematic model lessons, service learning, media literacy, etc."
We historically have focused on the Perspectives for a Diverse America toolkit and corresponding Social Justice Standards Framework for this PD option.
https://www.tolerance.org/magazine/publications/perspectives-for-a-diverse-americaDuring this PD, you can expect to:
-Tour the Museum of Tolerance
-Hear from a Holocaust Survivor
-Hear from another community speaker on their own experiences with oppression and overcoming it
-familiarize yourself with the social justice standards and how you can use them as a tool to guide your teaching and promote social justice mindsets in students
-familiarize yourself with Perspectives for a Diverse American - a curriculum resource and planning tool to help find media (texts, photos, and videos of all types for all different grades) to promote diverse voices and perspectives in addition to supporting social justice mindsets.
We will be taking sign ups until November 26. November 27 we will send out confirmations. Priority will be given to school site or subject area teams that attend together. If you get wait-listed, there are always a few that cannot confirm their spot and need a replacement.
