Volunteer at BookFest!
Love books? Love to help? BookFest is for you! Volunteer 2 or 3 hours of your time (or more) at the Kerrytown BookFest on Sunday, September 18. We'll be in air conditioned comfort at the Morris J. Lawrence Building on the Campus of Washtenaw Community College. Greet people, help with author talks or presentations, assist a book dealer bringing in their wares, or help out at our information booth -- so many opportunities! A brief orientation a few days before the festival will get you all ready to go.

What are you interested in doing at the festival? Check any options or jobs you're interested in.
Greeting attendees, handing out schedules, and pointing the way to activites, talks, the bathrooms, etc. We'll give you a little "clicker" to count attendees with if you have time (if not, no worries!)
Set up: Help arrange things before the festival begins -- put signs on tables, get out refreshments, arrange easels with our schedule of events, and generally make sure all is as it should be
Event Assistant: You'll make sure the presenters and activity leaders have everything they need, and keep track of when presentations and activites should start and end.
Floater / General fussing: This is my favorite -- it means walking around the festival, answering questions, making sure attendees and vendors have what they need, carrying messages or texting, and generally making everything wonderful.
Schlepping: Helping our antique book dealers bring their (sometimes heavy -- up to 50 lbs) merchandise into the building before the festival or out to their cars after. Carts and dollys are provided.
Food, glorious food! . . .and water, and coffee -- Helping set up our tables of free refreshments and making sure they're full and neat looking
Stage Managing -- do you have theater experience? Want to help out by making sure authors get talking on time, lights go up or down, and activities go on without a hitch? This job is for you!
Info Maven: Staff the Kerrytown BookFest table, possibly sell our t shirts and posters.
Greenroom minder: hang out in the "ready room" with authors. Make sure they have what they need and know where to be when.
Vendor set up: Help vendors find their tables and answer any questions they might have (Where's the bathroom? Where can I plug in my phone? Is it OK to park where I parked?)
Introductions: You, oh clear and audible speaker, will introduce authors or presenters before they start. We'll give you a (very short) script to read from, to tell the audience a little bit about the folks you're introducing them to.
Need to sit down? Have mobility issues? No problem! Let us know what you need and we'll find a way to make your volunteer experience fun.

2 or 3 hours -- I want to have time to participate in some activities and check out the vendors.
Half-day: I want to help with set-up or take-down and spend another couple of hours helping during the festival, but I still want time to have some fun.
All day -- I'm hard core and want to help all day, with a couple of hours off for lunch, breaks, and browsing.
