SKI TRIP 2023

Below is some information pertaining to our ski trip on Tuesday, 22 August 2023.

Venue:- Remarkables

Child Cost:- The breakdown of the children’s cost is as follows.

$109 for the lesson, rental of equipment and ski lift + $42 for the bus.

$151 Pupil - skiing $151 Pupil - snowboarding

Adult Cost:

This year we are doing things slightly differently. We are setting the prices for adults now. All adults that book for the skip trip will get lift pass and rentals. There will NOT be the option of just getting a lift pass or rentals. If parents wish to book a lesson they can do this but the cost of this is an additional $159 for an all day lesson. .

The breakdown of the adult’s cost is as follows: $197.10 for the rental equipment and ski lift + $42 for the bus.

Lesson, Lift, Rental & Bus Adult - skiing - $398.10 Adult - snowboarding - $398.10

Helmet rental (if required) - $12 per day.

Bus only: $42 Adult - non-skiing

We require all booking and payments for both parents and children to be made by Wednesday, 2 August at 9 am. WE WILL NOT BE TAKING LATE BOOKINGS. Adults when you are completing the online form please indicate if you require a lesson.

If there are older siblings want to attend please register them as well but current Makarewa School pupils will have the first option to attend in the situation that we have too many people.

Please note as per the school policy parents attending the ski trip have to be police vetted. If you require a form you need to get one form the office and fill it out as soon as possible.

Programme:-

Leave School 5.30 a.m. (sharp). Pick up people at Ryal Bush at 5.35 a.m. It is essential that we leave on time as our lessons start at 9.00 a.m.

All children have a lesson (1 hour 25 min).

After the lesson students ski in designated areas with parents/teacher supervision as required.

All people travelling on the bus must be off the mountain by 3.15 pm to return their gear.

Bus leaves the mountain at 4 p.m. Ryal Bush drop off 6.30 p.m. Makarewa at 6.35 p.m.

Numbers:- 48 places have been booked on the field.

Please Note – All children Year 4 and under are to be accompanied by an adult.

Transport:- Our bus takes 53 people. If people decide to take their own vehicle and there are insufficient people travelling on the bus to cover the cost, they will still be charged the bus fee.

Postponement:- If necessary a decision will be made on Monday 21 August morning. The alternative date has yet to be arranged.

Clothes:- I have the following recommendations:-

• layers of clothing on the top half e.g. singlet, t-shirt, skivvy, warm jersey or polyprops.

• a reasonably waterproof, wind-proof outer layer e.g. ski suit, ski overalls, or jacket top, leggings or nylon tracksuit trousers below.

• a long pair of thick socks e.g. rugby socks

• hat and gloves (waterproof)

• goggles or sunglasses

• lip cream, sunscreen etc.

I would like all first-time skiers to bring the ‘outer layers’ of their gear (including hat and gloves) to school on, Wednesday, 9 August for a “fashion parade” so that I can be assured that all children will have the right gear. Please do not feel you need to buy any new clothes for your children; we can borrow most of what is required and we have a small amont of gear we can borrow. .

Food:- Children will need food and drinks for morning tea, lunch and a snack for the bus trip home after an exhausting day’s skiing. A full canteen operates at the Remarkables - e.g. $12 will purchase a coke and a pie.

Ski Information: This year we are again using an online system to collect the ski information. The ski information will be gathered by completing an online form, which can be found on the school website (www.makarewa.school.nz) or via HERO. If you do not have access to the internet please see the office. All information for parents and children must be completed by Wednesday, 2 August at 9 am. WE WILL NOT BE TAKING LATE BOOKINGS.

NOTE: Please note that anyone that withdraws from the ski trip 48 hours before the day will still need to pay the cost of skiing as the ski field will still charge us.

To secure a place on the ski trip all fees must be paid and information completed by Wednesday, 2 August at 9 am.

If I withdraw from the trip less than 48 hours before the ski date (After 19 Aug , 2 pm), that there will be no refund.

If the cost of the bus isn't covered then people travelling in cars will be charged a fee to cover the bus payment.

Adults cost of $239.10 includes rental hire, lift pass and bus fare. Adult lessons will cost an additional $159..
