Volunteers! We need you: Come support arts and culture in your community as a volunteer for a vibrant, colorful, music-filled festival in Downtown Hillsboro, OR!

Tualatin Valley Creates (TVC) brings you La Strada dei Pastelli Chalk Art Festival, a window into the creative process wherein festival goers can engage with nationally-recognized and emerging visual artists as they carefully manipulate bold, colorful pigments to produce huge, temporary drawings down the center of the streets. Simultaneous to the visual arts exhibitions, local performing artists fill the air with rhythm and sound from the festival’s main stage. Local art vendors also line the streets offering unique items and inspirations to attendees. Children of all ages are encouraged to take part in hands-on activities being provided by local nonprofit organizations. The annual festival combines community engagement and art appreciation into one FREE fun-filled weekend!

Weekend long, day long or 4 hour shifts available. Example positions include supporting artists while they draw, staffing the information booth, assisting with traffic control, and more! Ages 14+ and all abilities are welcome. Ages 14-17 will be assigned in pairs of two (2) so consider signing up with a friend! Must be 18+ to work with the logistics teams. Let volunteer coordinator(s) know what section of the event is of most interest. Each section of the festival (chalk artists, entertainment, vendors, etc.) will have different weekend responsibilities. This may include lifting 20+ pounds and/or extensive walking.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES (2nd Ave): Engage with youth and their families in chalk art installations including handing out art supplies, assisting in how to use supplies and clean up. Position requires walking, bending, engaging with public. Shifts available July 20 and 21..

INFORMATION BOOTH: Engage with public. Share festival info including locations and activities. Assist with health and safety, example: lost child. Position requires sitting and/or standing. Shifts available July 20 and 21.

SHALK ARTISTS Assistance: Engage with public to promote People's Choice Ballot participation. Ensure artists have water, food and supplies. Position requires extensive walking in sun. Shifts available July 19, 20 and 21.

LOGISTICS & LAYOUT: Oversee general event flow, pedestrian monitoring, troubleshooting across the event's various teams. Position requires extensive walking in the sun, and lifting. Volunteers needed July 19, 20 and 21.

PROMOTION: Distribute printed flyers/posters throughout Portland Metro Area and online. Position requires local travel, walking, public engagement. Volunteers needed between April-July, flexible.

FUNDRAISING: Build sponsorships and in-kind support. Be available between January-August, flexible.

ENTERTAINMENT & PERFORMANCES: Engage with performers, musicians, etc. at the main stage and troubadour stations throughout the event layout. Position requires mild walking from parking to stage (~half block radius). May require lifting. Shifts available July 20 and 21.

VENDORS: Assist vendor booth set up/break down. Includes traffic control assistance. Position requires extensive walking. Volunteers needed July 19, 20 and 21..

TRAFFIC & SAFETY: Assist with traffic controls including giving directions, locate parking, and/or alerting traffic to pedestrians. Position requires sitting, standing and walking. Shifts available on July 20 and 21.

Join an advanced planning team!

Check here if you would you like to be involved in the pre-planning process (January-July). Teams work an average of 5-20 hours per month. Most of the workload can be done remotely. Each team has a Lead who will guide you through the process. Advanced planning volunteers may be involved in fundraising, logistics, layout, and more.
