BE AWARE

Did you know smoking is a form of modern slavery?

Freedom is the power to act as one wants without hindrance or restraint. The opposites of Freedom

include confinement and addiction. A form of slavery can be viewed as not being able to quit an action

or activity on your own.

Nicotine causes addiction.

What is Nicotine?

Nicotine is a toxic colorless or yellowish oily liquid that is the chief active constituent of tobacco.

Nicotine is a dangerous and highly addictive chemical. All tobacco products contain nicotine.

ALL TOBACCO PRODUCTS

HOOKAH tobacco, CIGARS, most E-cigarettes, Snuff, Dip, Snus, Chewing tobacco, smokeless tobacco

and non-combusted cigarettes (commonly referred to as “heat-not-burn tobacco products”) contain

nicotine.

Vaping exposes users to around 2,000 chemicals, including potentially harmful industrial compounds,

according to a study of four popular brands by researchers at Johns Hopkins University.Oct 6, 2021

BEHIND THE SMOKE IS ADDICTION

Addiction - a persistent and intense urge to engage in certain behaviors, often usage of a drug, despite

substantial harm and other negative consequences. Repetitive drug use often alters brain function in

ways that perpetuate craving, and weakens self-control.

Among youth, e-cigarettes, especially the disposable kind, are more popular than any traditional

tobacco product. According to the 2021 National Youth Tobacco Survey, more than 2 million U.S. middle

and high school students reported using e-cigarettes in 2021, with more than 8 in 10 of those youth

using flavored e-cigarettes. (CDC)
