Merlene Odessa Legare graduated from Atlantic Union College in 1940. She began her teaching career at Union Springs Academy and Forest Lake Academy. After a few years she returned to Vermont, her home state, to help care for her mother and sister. She taught in public school secondary education until retirement: home economics, business education, and driver’s education. She took over 50 hours of graduate classes.
She taught adult Sabbath School for decades, spoke in church, and became head elder in the St. Johnsbury Seventh-day Adventist Church. Atlantic Union College changed the course of her life. She requested that a scholarship be established in her name to help a needy Northern New England Conference student attend her college, Atlantic Union College, or another Seventh-day Adventist college.
In addition to completing the form below, you must also submit the following:
- Copy of previous year's income tax returns for student, mother, & father
- Students' high school & college transcript
- Reference letter from pastor, principal, or professor
- 300 word essay on:
1. Why you think you should be a recipient of this scholarship
2. How a college degree at a Seventh-day Adventist college will prepare you and
help you to glorify God and serve others.
Application deadline is June 11, 2022.
