NZASE will host an online panel discussion with teachers from three pilot schools. These schools have been trialling the four Nature of Science standards throughout 2021. After hearing from the pilot schools there will be time for questions from the audience.

The webinar will run from 7-8pm on Tuesday 14th September. A link will be sent to all registered participants by the 13th.

Chandar Dewan: Head of Science at Tangaroa College in Auckland. Tangaroa is a decile 1, coed college in Otara with approximately 800 students. Our students are 95% Māori and Pasifika. We have 8 compulsory science classes and 1 Biology/Chemistry class that students can take as an option. This year we had 4 classes (three teachers) offering the new Science standards (approximately 90 kids) and another four teachers with four classes doing the old NCEA standards.

Linda Haycock: Head of Science at Green Bay High School in Auckland. Green Bay is a decile 8, coed high school in Green Bay, west Auckland with approximately1500 students. Our students are 13% Maori, 5% Pasifika and 70% European. We have 10  general Science classes and 2 classes dedicated to Biology/Chemistry/Physics over two option lines. All of our general science students are taking part in the pilot, with a team of 10 teachers.

Kamal Nair: Leader of Learning - Science at Te Puke High School in Tauranga. TPHS is a Decile 3, co-ed High School in Western Bay of Plenty with approximately 950 students. Our school is made up of 43% European, 34% Maori , 6% Pasifika and other students. We have 7 compulsory science classes in year 11 and all of which are taking part in the RAS pilot together with a team of 7 teachers. We have a 7 day timetable with 75 min periods.
