Y-WE Asian/Pacific Islander Anti-Racism Solidarity Group!
We are excited to learn and build with you in solidarity around anti-racism. This group is open to people that identify as Asian/Pacific Islander and are part of the Young Women Empowered Community. To start, we're aiming for a group size of no more than 20, meeting once a month for 6 months. If more than 20 folks sign up, we will center Y-WE youth and those that work closely with them (e.g. mentors, alums, parents, facilitators, and board members). Please read below to learn more about our intentions for this group and fill out the form, so we can follow up with next steps!
“If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”- Lilla Watson, Indigenous Australian artist, activist, and academic
INTENTIONS:
*Do the deep work to understand how our liberation as Asian/Pacific Islanders is bound up with the liberation of Black and Indigenous people
*Unpack our familial, cultural, and ancestral histories to understand the trauma and perpetuation of white supremacy, capitalism, and patriarchy
*Lean into the intersections of power, privilege, and oppression to center the most impacted
*Cultivate ourselves to be courageous changemakers within our personal and professional communities by identifying commitments and actions steps to stand stronger as anti-racist allies
WHAT THIS SPACE IS NOT:
*This is not a DEI training
*This is not a space to convince folks that racism is real and deserving of our attention personally and organizationally
*This is not a space that will tolerate overtly hateful, racist, or oppressive commentary or action
*This is not a space that is led by anti-racist “experts” or “professionals”
~If you are seeking professional anti-racist trainings and support, we have great resource lists and recommendations for you.
