The Wake Number works the same as the Erdős Number (or Oracle of Kevin Bacon). For example, two of us (Bonett and Kuchta) have a Wake Number of 1, i.e., they published with Dave. One of us (Beachy) has Wake Number of 2 because he did not publish with Dave, but did publish with someone that published with Dave (i.e., Bonett).
