This series looks at global experiences in higher education from multiple points of view with the goal of providing advisors an overview of the myriad opportunities and experiences WSU students have for international study as well as the information and best practices surrounding advising international students at the University. Session 1: National Competitive Scholarships
Presented by Kevin Deegan-Krause, Dept. of Political Science and Heidi Prillwitz, Study Abroad. An overview of highly competitive scholarships to study abroad such as the Fulbright, Truman, Rhodes, Gilman, Marshall and others. Advisors will learn about the nature of the application process including the time-line for applying and where to refer students for support.

Session 3: Advising WSU International Students
What are the Core Competencies advisors need to develop to work best with WSU international students? From the informational (regulations, resources, policies, student life) to the conceptual (cross cultural awareness and understanding) to the relational skills (advocating and supporting), this session will provide the best practices that all advisors can benefit from as well as student perspectives from an international student panel and insights from Fareed Shalhout, Associate Director, Director of Student Programs, Educational Outreach
