Troop 840 Adult Behavior Guidelines
Troop 840 Adult Behavior Guidelines

All Guidelines are designed to adhere to the Spirit of Scouting and must be interpreted in that light.
 1. Adults involved in transporting Scouts and Scouters must obey traffic laws including speed limits. Adults driving Scouts and Scouters must be registered with BSA and have a current YPT certificate.
2. Gambling is not permitted at Troop or BSA functions.
3. Adults are expected to model polite speech for the Scouts at all times. Explicitly, this excludes coarse jokes, cursing, and any manner of speaking that degrades scouts, women, ethnic minorities, individuals from any particular group or nationality, or any challenged individual.
4. No alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, or illegal drugs are permitted at any Troop or BSA function.
5. Straight-bladed knives, firearms, and weapons of any kind are not permitted at any Troop or BSA function.
6. The principle of “two-deep” leadership must be followed at all times, including Merit Badge counseling, Patrol outings, and advance crews. Merit Badge counselors cannot counsel Scouts one-on-one. There must be at least two Scouts or at least two registered Adult Leaders. Transportation to and from outings cannot have a single Scout in a car with one Adult Leader. At least two Scouts or a second Adult Leader must be in the car. All other activities require two Adult Leaders.
7. When an adult declines to follow these guidelines, Troop 840 reserves the right to prevent further participation of the offending party in Troop or BSA functions.
