Discover Science with Dr. Bear - Dr. Bear's Cubs Summer Science Experience 2020
Thank you for your interest in applying to Dr. Bear Cubs Summer Science Experience ("SSE") 2020. SSE is a free week-long summer camp for students entering 3rd-5th grade and will be held from Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26th 2020 at Children's National Hospital in conjunction with one District of Columbia Public Libraries branch.

What
This summer, we invite children entering grades 3-5 to apply to attend Dr. Bear’s Cubs Summer Science Experience, a week-long camp experience with the theme “Inside Out and Outside In” held at Children’s National Hospital in conjunction with District of Columbia Public Libraries.

Students attending this free camp will have the unique opportunity to meet and interact with physicians, nurses and scientists while exploring the inner workings of the body, the nuances of human behavior, and topics such as microbiology. Daily activities include science experiments (possibly including a brain dissection), arts and crafts, demonstrations from field experts and insider tours of different hospital departments.

Using the scientific knowledge of hospital staff augmented by new research skills at the library, students will work on a project showcasing their new understanding of the human body. They will share a presentation with parents, families and staff on the last day of camp.

Who
Dr. Bear’s Cubs Summer Science Experience will accept between 20 and 25 students entering grades 3-5 who have a strong teacher/school staff recommendation and creative personal submission.

When
Monday, June 22 through Friday, June 26, 2020; drop-off at Children’s will be at 8:45am and pick-up will be at 4pm; parents and caregivers are solely responsible for transportation to and from Children’s (111 Michigan Ave. NW) at these times. Free breakfast, lunch and one snack daily will be served to campers.

How
The nomination packet must be completed and returned no later than March 31, 2019.
