DHPSNY Statewide Documentation Planning: Conversations on Local History
In the most important stage of the Statewide Documentation Planning project, Documentary Heritage and Preservation Services for New York (DHPSNY) is hosting eight regional Conversations on Local History in collaboration with the New York Council of Nonprofits (NYCON). We invite the historical records community to engage in conversation with DHPSNY staff in order to identify under-documented topics and peoples in New York State history, and to share opinions on current collecting activities within the state.

Each meeting will be approximately 90 minutes, and will explore the meanings of “local history,” who is included in or missing from that history, and what resources are needed to support future local and statewide collecting activities. Take advantage of this opportunity to help direct future NY State Archives Documentary Heritage Program activities and ensure a more equitable historical record.

These Conversations are open to everyone in New York State. We ask that if you know of any person or group in your community who has collections of cultural or historical significance and who may want to participate, please forward this invitation to them.

**For online meetings, registration is required in order to securely share the Zoom meeting link to all participants. Registration will close 24 hours before the start of an online meeting (except for a Monday meeting - this registration will remain open through the weekend). If you have registered but do not receive a Zoom meeting link within 24 hours of the start of the meeting, please check your email spam folder, or email us at dhpsny@gmail.com.**

Please contact DHPSNY at 215-545-0613 ext.338 with any questions or concerns.

UPDATE 5/6/2020: COVID-19 Rescheduling
In light of the evolving situation around COVID-19, and because the health, safety, and well-being of our community are top priorities, DHPSNY and NYCON have made the decision to shift all in-person programming to an online format. ALL upcoming Conversations on Local History will take place in a Zoom Meeting space. Event times will remain the same - see the full updated list of Conversations dates below.

The virtual Conversations will remain focused on the regions of New York State in order to facilitate discussion, but individuals from other regions are welcome to attend any Conversation. There will be a Zoom Meeting link sent to all Registrants 24 hours prior to the virtual event. While we intend to make these online discussions accessible to everyone in New York State, registration is required in order to maintain the security of the Zoom Meeting space.

If you are unable to attend these virtual Conversations on Local History, we are developing other channels of communication and ways for you to participate in the DHPSNY Statewide Documentation Planning Project. One of these methods is a 15-minute survey about your organization's collecting and documentation practices, that we encourage you to complete, especially if you are unable to attend any of the Conversations on Local History: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/KDBDG2P

Thank you for your interest and support, and for the continued flexibility in this time of necessary changes.
