Combating Anti-Semitism

Sadly, incidences of Anti-Semitism are becoming increasingly prevalent. Last year, Massachussetts had more incidences of Anti-Semitism than all but three states. Increasingly our children come home from school having seen a swastika in the bathroom, or having heard an Anti-Semitic joke. And we know all too well what Anti-Semitism leads to.

We Jews are canaries in the coal mine. Anti-Semitism is not just scary for us, but also a harbinger of hatred and oppression for all peoples. We cannot stand by. Hate has no place in our world.

Pledge to start a conversation of understanding with the ADL: Educate yourself about Anti-Semitism and then sponsor a group or day of learning for your community. These groups have the potential to create real and positive change, and also generate networks of support.

Take a class with Facing History: The Persistence of Hate: Exploring Contemporary Antisemitism--How and why does antisemitism persist in communities today? What can we do as educators, neighbors, and religious institutions to confront hatred in our schools and communities? Facing History’s new lessons explore the role that antisemitism played at the 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville as a case study in contemporary antisemitism. The lessons provide strategies and resources for discussing controversial issues with students that are especially urgent at this historical moment. They also provide a lens through which we can construct effective ways of responding to such issues within the Jewish community in particular.
