Thank you so much for your interest in supporting the 2019 Career ChoICE SOVA Youth Expo!

This year's Expo will take place Sept. 24-26 at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex (19783 US-29, Chatham, VA 24531).

This event truly would not be possible without generous volunteers like yourself, committed to helping ensure this event is an amazing experience for our regional students.

Over 4,000 7th-10th grade students from Halifax, Henry, Patrick, & Pittsylvania Counties and Danville & Martinsville Cities will attend the event. Our goal is to show students the career opportunities available to them here in Southern Virginia, and get them thinking about their academic and career plans.

In addition to the two student days of the event (Sept. 25 & 26) we'll be hosting Expo in the Evening! Community members (parents, families, junior & senior high school students, college students, teachers, counselors, etc.) will be encouraged to attend the event Sept. 24, 4-7pm.

We hope that the Expo will once again prove to be a rewarding experience not only for the attendees but for the volunteers & participating employers as well.

Students will be on site for the Expo on Sept 25 & 26. Therefore the largest number of volunteers are needed on these days from 8:30am-2:30pm.

Additionally, volunteers are needed to help with setup & Expo in the Evening (Sept. 24), and take down (after 2:00pm on Sept. 26).

Please note that set-up and take-down involve quite a bit of lifting (tables, chairs, etc.); please take that into consideration. Please indicate below if you are available to assist with the following:

We will do out best to put you in your preferred placement, but please understand this may not always be possible. (These volunteer assignments are only applicable for the Student Days of the Expo, Sept. 25 & 26)

Bus/Student Arrival Volunteer- board buses to welcome students to the Expo and ensure the orderly/timely unloading of each student group at their assigned time.

Student Welcome Area Volunteer- prepare student "supplies" (backpack, pen, inserts) for each incoming group, provide student backpacks to all students, and ensure students have their activity map handy before entering the Expo.

Zone Volunteer- surveys their assigned zone and encourages students that are not engaged to seek an activity. Helps students within their zone find activities, and aids the transition of each group to the next zone at the "Shift Change".

Student Lunch Volunteer- ensure that visiting school groups are entering and exiting their designated lunch space on time.

Student Exit Volunteer- assists students with completing their Post-Expo Survey. Helps teachers get all students loaded on their buses in an orderly and timely fashion.

Crew member, Volunteer, & Visitor Check-In- man the check-in table: greet and provide all information and materials necessary to those checking in.

Crew member/Volunteer Relief- Circulates throughout the Expo venue with water and/or snacks for Crew members and volunteers. Also provides short-term relief for crew members or volunteers for a quick break if necessary.
