Hello
Thank you for your interest in your child(ren) attending a Science Practical day where they'll get the opportunity to do hands-on, curriculum relevant, science experiments in a small group with a qualified and experienced tutor - me!
Science investigations are great for developing thinking skills, understanding the scientific process, as a revision tool, for exam prep or just for the flipping fun of it! They're also a great opportunity for teens (and parents/carers) to meet up, work together and problem solve.
I've experience of running many 'kitchen worktop' science practical groups covering a range of Biology, Chemistry and Physics investigations. I tend to choose activities which closely tie in to the National Curriculum for Science (England) and advance students towards the attainment of GCSEs (or similar). I ensure appropriate attention is put into:
- explaining safety measures
- experimental design
- the development of scientific thinking skills
- understanding different variables and sources of error
- use of key terminology such as accurate, repeatability, validity, accuracy, precision etc.
Sessions will take place in Easingwold, 20 minutes north of York. It's a lovely old market town with shops, cafes, a large park and nice country walks.
Please indicate below your day/date preferences etc and I'll do my best to assemble groups where students are likely to be at a similar place in their learning (priority will go to students who already attend my live tutorials).
I
've found a group size of 5 works best. I'd suggest we look at running the session from approx 10am - 3pm which gives 4 hours of practicals, half an hour for lunch, breaks and travel time - this could be adjusted to suit a particular group. Am happy to look at a bespoke session if your child wants to attend with friends. Fee is £65pp to include use of equipment, goggles and chemicals.
Thanks in advance for showing interest in this, I hope we get the chance to meet soon.
Kind regards
- Tutor Andy
