The mission of the GAWL Foundation, Inc. (the "Foundation") is to encourage philanthropy by women lawyers in Georgia for the benefit of the greater community. The Foundation (1) strives to provide easy access to community service for GAWL members; (2) awards semiannual grants to Georgia 501(c)(3) organizations serving women and children, especially those in the legal system; and (3) awards annual scholarships to select women law students at Georgia law schools interested in pursuing careers in public interest law.
Foundation grants generally range from $500 to $2000 and are best suited to smaller organizations that will benefit from grants of this scale. The Grants Committee will select grant recipients based on the guidelines below. While the guidelines are flexible, the Committee will give preference to organizations with missions that align with the following guidelines listed below in order of priority:
1. Organizations that provide free legal services to disadvantaged women and girls.
2. Organizations that provide free services to disadvantaged women and girls in the legal system.
3. Organizations that provide free services to disadvantaged women and girls.
Organizations interested in applying for a grant must demonstrate alignment with or furtherance of our mission. Please read all rules and directions carefully. Grant applications that do not follow directions or applications that are incomplete will not be considered. Please direct any questions regarding grants to the Foundation Grants Committee at

1. Foundation grant awards cannot be used for propaganda, lobbying activities, or supporting the election of public officials.
2. The Foundation does not participate in the establishment of or addition to endowments or respond to mass appeal solicitations.
3. Applicants must complete the following application to be considered for a Foundation grant. The application should be supplemented by additional supporting materials.
4. Applicants must answer all application questions and submit all requested information, as outlined below.
5. Applicants must demonstrate that the grant will align with or further the Foundation's mission.
6. Grant awards must be used strictly in accordance with the proposal and budget submitted in this application. Any funds not so expended must be returned to the Foundation. In rare cases, where it becomes apparent that a recipient is not using the grant award for the purposes set forth in the application, the Foundation reserves the right to request the grant award, or a portion thereof, be refunded.
7. Only 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit a copy of its IRS 501(c)(3) exemption letter.
8. All materials submitted to the Foundation become the property of the Foundation and will not be returned.
9. The receipt of a grant award is not a guarantee of future awards.
10. Grant recipients must provide biannual status updates to the Foundation Grants Committee (
GAWL.Grants@gmail.com). Status updates may be provided by e-mail; however, the committee may occasionally request a phone or in-person meeting.
