About the Wine Dinner
Join myself and Heather Gorman, fellow Houstonian and wine enthusiast, for a fun evening. Heather will be our guide as we taste some three wines specifically chosen from this amazing, small winery. The wines chosen are all single variety AND also all famous Spanish grape varieties; Mencia, Tempranillo, and Grenache aka Garnacha. We will also be featuring some fun extras before and after the meal.
About Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards
The story of this winery starts with the immigration of William and Elizabeth Oliver and their two children from the Scottish border town of Samieston to new colony in South Australia. Starting a farm from scratch was no easy feat, but to choose to plant grapes here would be a decision that would affect the lives of this family forever.
Six Generations in the ‘Seaview’ subregion of McLaren Vale, the Oliver Family continue to flourish; producing small batch, handcrafted wines solely from their 100 hectare ‘Taranga’ property. The Region notable for producing Shriaz also finds itself a home for a number of Mediterranean varieties. On the Oliver’s land alone you would find a number of varieties such as Mataro, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Vermentino, Fiano, Tempranillo, Mencia, Touriga, Sagrantino, and White Frontignac. While the family has turned its attention to making its own wine, they also are one of the few who sell their premium grapes to other amazing producers in the area such as d’Arenberg, Penfolds, Wirra Wirra and Seppeltsfield each year.
