Employment skills database (Campus Asia+)

Dear students,

We need your help, and we think helping us will help you. We are trying to build knowledge and tools that we hope will help you advance your career.

The KU GSIS CAMPUS Asia Plus Program launched the Task Force for Mainstreaming Practical Skills Development into Curriculum in December 2023. The purpose of this Task Force is to (i) identify skills required by jobs that are of interest to GSIS students and to (ii) embed those skills into the GSIS curriculum to benefit students in their job search. First and foremost, the Task Force is setting out to collect job postings to extract key skills solicited by students’ preferred employers. For this exercise, we wish to ask for students’ voluntary support with a survey (https://forms.gle/MinKG7tQwSmkFTpXA) to help us gather as many relevant job postings (and skills required) as possible that are of actual interest to our students.

More specifically, we ask for your valuable support in (i) collecting 3 to 5 job postings from job listing websites you use that you’re actually or ideally interested in (whether or not applications are ongoing or from the recent past) (but even one listing would be a great help!) and (ii) answering questions in the survey based on the contents of the job postings you have found.

Your support will indeed be essential to increasing the accuracy of the Task Force’s skills analysis and in potentially reflecting them in the upcoming GSIS curriculum. For those of you who are not already looking for jobs, we believe that this exercise will also be useful for you in helping you identify the kind of opportunities available to you and the skills and knowledge you will want to develop over the coming semesters.

We thank you for your time and interest in advance.

General instructions:
  1. The survey is composed of three sections. In the first section, you will be asked to provide some basic demographic details that will only be used to categorize data or contact you in case of questions. In the second section, you will be asked about your own expectations about skills demanded by the marketplace and skills you think GSIS should be helping you develop. (Note that you only need to fill this out once.) In the final section, you will be asked to enter information from 3 to 5 job advertisements that you find interesting. You are welcome to add more, but we don't want to burden you too much. Note that the job announcements can also be from the recent past.
  2. When entering information, please use the original language of job advertisements. This way we will be able to identify the exact phrasing that you should use in your cover letters.
  3. If advertisements do not include particular information, please put "NA" as an answer.
  4. Please copy and paste text from the original job advertisement in the question indicated so that we have the raw text of the announcement to draw on if necessary.
  5. Please enter one job per form. So if you are providing information on three jobs, you will fill out the form three separate times. Apologies for having you reenter some information each time.
In case you have not looked for employment, here are a few common sites (in Korea). But we strongly encourage you to introduce us to unlisted sources, since we will include these in the manual we plan to produce for you.
