Find a conversation partner whose views are different from your own.  Invite them to dialogue with you and choose the topic ahead of time.  Before the conversation, take time to figure out what you will say if you get a chance to be the speaker. At the start of the conversation, let your partner know your highest priority is to understand them fully.
1) Using the skills and focus aids you have just learned, listen to your partner until they agree you have given them the gift of being heard and understood.
What, if anything, did they say about the experience?
2) Ask them if they are willing to hear your views.
a) If they say yes, tell them your view on the issue and explain why your view makes sense to you.  Avoid saying anything that might sound like you are trying to convert them to your side.
b) If they say no, thank them and let them know you hope they will agree another time. In Module 5 we’ll present more specific guidelines for inviting others to hear your views.

What was the experience like for you?
