The goals/expectations of co-op: regular attendance is required and the first three weeks of the course is realated to in-class learning then you are at placement each day with the exception of a few Wednesday's you will be in-class at CCH to complete assignments.
The number of credits granted for co-op. Students can earn credits- 2 or 4 (full day co-op).
The pay policy: students are not to get paid hourly for earning their high school co-op credits.
The Transportation Policy: student is not to drive company vehicles and will need to find their own way to and from their co-op placement/workplace. COSTS of transportation is the student's responsibility.
The course structure: either 2 credits during period 1-2 or period 4-5.
The length/hours at the placement is 2.5- 3 hours each school day.
Evaluation procedures: Assignments and NO FINAL Exams. You will be evaluated by teacher at the co-op placement (co-op workplace).
The importance of commitment to the program: Please be aware that you can be fired by your co-op placement mentor/supervisor for various reasons. This means that you could lose 2+ credits. Understand that co-op is amazing and fun experience but your actions play an important part of your success!
That there may be an opportunity to participate in an apprenticeship, such as OYAP to earn hours for your future. [Trade Careers].
That some placements require a criminal record check if you are 18+ years old- This will cost you $15+ and it takes 6-8 weeks to recieve so get it done during the summer if you think you will need it for the type of co-op/work you are interested in. OR health screening for health care placements and this is for all ages.
Volunteer Hours for Graduating- your co-op time CANNOT be used as volunteer hours.
Have your resume & cover letter ready by the end of June- Interviews may need to start well before the course begins. You may need to interview in June or in the summer for competitve programs.
Co-op placements: you are not just placed in a workplace, you will need to interview for a co-op opportunity and be part of finding a suitable placement. Your co-op teacher guides you and offer suggestions.
