About Kaleidoscope Learning Program
Kaleidoscope is a FREE tutorial enrichment learning experience sponsored by Appalachian State University’s Reich College of Education (RCOE).

Kaleidoscope tutoring can be designed to directly support the young learner’s school-based academics while also catering to less formal enrichment interests.

Kaleidoscope tutoring takes place in various classrooms in the RCOE on the Appalachian campus. Tutoring hours are from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday.

We may have several field trips planned during the 10-week semester. These trips will be “walking trips” or accessible by Appalcart. You will be notified each time your child is away from the RCOE building.

Students are dropped off on Howard Street (behind the RCOE). Pick-up is either on Howard Street or Hamby Alley. Parents will be informed of their child(ren)'s pick-up location. Directors and/or Appalachian students will chaperone students from the time they are dropped off until they are picked up.

Participating families are encouraged to opt for either a M/W or T/TH placement, but they may also choose to participate all four days if space allows and if they are certain their children will be able to attend each day, Monday-Thursday. NOTE:  Due to the large number of requests, children in Grade 5 and up MUST choose EITHER a M/W or a T/R placement.  Those students are not eligible to attend all four days of Kaleidoscope.

Our young learners will be paired with an undergraduate “future teacher” from the RCOE teacher preparation program. We have an on-site experienced teacher/program coordinator who, along with our tutor/mentors, will maintain constant supervision of your child/children.

The Fall semester program generally operates from the first week of September through mid-November; the Spring semester program typically operates from the first week of February through mid-April. Start-up dates may vary slightly from year to year.
