Mentee Intake Form -- EMT Publication Mentorship Program
Please complete the following form to the best of your ability.

This mentoring program aims to help mentees progress a project of their choosing toward publication. Mentors will advise and provide feedback on the mentee’s project at a single stage. As a general guideline, we hope that mentees/mentors will meet twice over a period of four months (September to December 2023) to discuss the mentee’s work and provide feedback on drafts as needed. We hope that the mentor will find 4–6 hours to spend on this mentorship, although they are welcome to provide more time if they would like. Mentees should understand that a single mentorship will help them at a specific stage of the publication process, not guide them through the publication process from beginning to end. Mentees are, however, allowed to apply to the program multiple times for help with different stages of the same project.

Mentees and Mentors will be required to follow the EMT's guidelines for best practices. Please review them here, and confirm below that you have read and understood them.

As a mentee, you are expected to:

1. Come prepared for meetings with your mentor. Depending on the context, preparation may involve generating a list of questions, bringing a completed manuscript draft to share and discuss with the mentor, or integrating the mentor’s feedback from a previous meeting.

2. Respect the timespan of the mentoring program and the mentor’s time (i.e., two meetings with the mentor over a four-month period to work through a specific stage of the publication process).

3. Work with the mentor to establish a realistic and concrete timeline, expectations, and goals before the end of the first meeting.

4. Maintain collegial, respectful, and culturally sensitive boundaries with mentors.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the mentoring program, or if you have issues with your mentor, please contact us at engagedmusictheory@gmail.com.
