Nature School LA Fall Enrollment 2020/2021 for Ernest E. Debs Park
Welcome to Registration for Nature School LA Fall Program "Experiencing the Seasons in Los Angeles" 2020-2021. Besides learning about the native landscape by engaging all the sense, children build friendships, develop cooperation skills, learn to communicate their needs and wants, creatively express their ideas and build executive function skills as they need to make independent choices. We plan creative activities throughout the year including literacy, math, art and science. Children adventure in unstructured play, go hiking, and receive all the benefits of being outdoors in nature. Older children will be actively engaged in leading their personal learning experience under the guidance of the teacher. Group size will be 12 children with a 1:4 teacher child ratio. We are anticipating 2 groups of 7-8 children with 2 teachers.

Rainy Days:
-------------------------------------
As we say in Europe: "There is no bad weather just bad clothes." This is the time to jump into puddles, go on hikes and explore the changing landscape. There is so much to discover on rainy days.
Please purchase rain-gear for your child. This includes rain-boots, rain-pants, and a rain-jacket. For colder weather have a sweater ready for them. They will need all of it. We recommend umbrellas as well. On rainy days we build rain-shelters for and with the children. If it rains unusually a lot we will cancel school. There will be no refunds for canceled rainy days.

Air Quality:
-------------------------------------
Changes in the weather created more bad air quality than in the previous years. Due to health risks for children and teachers we will cancel class if we reach unhealthy levels at 105-135 AQI (Air Quality Index) and above. Anything between 100-135 AQI and above is already considered unhealthy to dangerous. We use this website to check the air quality https://www.airnow.gov There will be no refund for cancelled days due to bad air quality.

COVOD-19 Precautions:
-------------------------------------
Adults will wear masks or face shields. Children can choose to wear masks as no child can be forced to wear one. We offer wipes and hand sanitizer to be used regularly. Any child or adult with flu -ike symptoms need to stay home as well as anyone with a fever above 100.4 F. We are taking the pandemic very seriously.

LATE POLICY:
Nature School LA Fall Program hours are 8:30am -1:30pm. Children should not be dropped off later than 8:45am and must be picked up by 1:30pm for regular days and 3:00pm for extended days. Please, drop-off and pick up on time. A late drop-off and pick-up fee may be applied at the rate of $10 within the first 15 minutes, increasing by $5 for every successive 5 minute period. If a late drop-off or pick up cannot be avoided,
BE SURE TO TEXT OR CALL ME (310) 986-7018.

Why is it important to drop-off on time?
The group can not start their day until everyone is PRESENT. Besides loosing precious time, especially when we hike, it can be disruptive to the group. Please be mindful of this dynamic in the morning and be on time. If we plan a hike and need to leave on time you will miss the whole day. Please be courteous for pick up as well.
