What is the Foodscape Gardens Project (FGP)?
In the spring, Maine Foodscapes partners with individuals, families, and organizations to build backyard vegetable gardens through the Foodscape Garden Project (FGP). We work throughout Cumberland and York Counties to provide the public with access to knowledge and resources needed to grow fresh, healthy, and culturally appropriate foods.

The FGP offers gardens, seeds, plant starts, cover crop mix, access to our gardening & health workshop series, and encourages connections within the greater gardening community.

The primary goal of FGP is to partner with food-insecure households in order to increase accessibility to sufficient, safe, and nutritious foods. To make this possible, our secondary goal is to partner with the rest of the community, including community groups, schools, and households of various incomes, so that all people are able to benefit from good food.
What is the application process for the Garden Project?
All sections of this application must be completed and submitted to Maine Foodscapes by April 22nd.

During the first week of April all applications will be reviewed to ensure eligibility, and garden recipients will be selected through a lottery process.

Selected applicants will be contacted in early April and invited to one of our mandatory orientation meetings to learn more about partnering with the FGP. Orientations are scheduled to take place in late April and gardens are built in collaboration with selected gardeners in May. For more information, visit our website at mainefoodscapes.org/fgp or email FGP@mainefoodscapes.org.

We look forward to partnering with you!
