Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is the foundation of Extension, rooted in our work and affected by our Extension history. Over the past few years, the National Urban Extension Leadership committee hosted open dialogues about key issues in Extension. Extension professionals shared feedback regarding areas of inequity that required attention to progress the mission of Extension.
Based on synthesized feedback, key areas of focus include:
- Developing a DEI Plan, Review, Metrics and Accountability Structure
- DEI in Leadership & Organizational Processes
- Building Internal Capacity and a Culture of DEI
- DEI in Recruitment Practices
- DEI in Talent Retention & Development Practices
- DEI in Community Engagement, and
- DEI in Research & Scholarship
The purpose of the panel is to:
- initiate/continue conversations regarding the focus areas,
- explore success stories and challenges for implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion in Extension, and
- provide diverse perspectives for addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion across program areas.
To help us address the concerns that are most relevant to you and your work, please submit questions below for discussion during the panel. Your questions will also be considered as the Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Action Team continues to build opportunities and resources to share about this work.
