Submit your Windrush 75 events

This year marks 75 years since 500 passengers from the Caribbean arrived at Tilbury Docks on the HMT Empire Windrush. They would be the first of many who were invited by successive governments between 1948 and 1971 to relocate to Britain from their homes in Commonwealth countries, to address labour shortages.

Hackney Council will be celebrating the anniversary and the incredible contribution of the Windrush Generation in shaping the future of Britain, through a series of events, activities, exhibitions, workshops and the sharing of authentic and diverse stories throughout the year.

As part of our plans we'll share a Windrush event calendar with residents online and in our newsletters, so if you're hosting a public event or activity in Hackney to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Windrush and you'd like us to promote it for free, just complete the simple form below.

NOTES

-Events can take any time between April and December 2023

-Plans can be virtual or in person, should be Hackney based and be accessible to residents.

-You are responsible for the delivery and funding of the event. The Council can only assist in its publicity. However, the Cultural Development team are on hand for practical advice should you need it. Please contact culture@hackney.gov.uk with any questions you may have.
