Survey of Ohio's K-16 Social Studies Educators Regarding Ohio Bills to Prohibit the Teaching of Divisive Topics
The following survey has been approved by the Ohio Council for the Social Studies. This survey is specifically intended for those currently teaching social studies in Ohio's schools and universities.

If you would like to be entered into a drawing to win one of 4 $25 Amazon gift cards, please enter your email address at the end when asked. YOUR ANSWERS WILL BE ANONYMOUS, even if you enter your email address--email addresses will NOT be connected to specific answers, and we will ONLY use them for the gift card drawing once the survey window closes.

The purpose is to gain a deeper understanding of what is currently being taught in Ohio's classrooms, and to gauge your perception of the implications of Ohio House Bills 322 and 327 on the teaching of social studies in the public schools of Ohio, should they become law.

We know this is a long survey, but there is a great deal happening right now in Ohio that we need your feedback and thoughts on. The survey should take you no more than 10 minutes to complete. Your participation is INCREDIBLY important and greatly appreciated.

Video Message from OCSS President Jim O'Connor
Background: In May and June, 2021, two bills were introduced in Ohio's House of Representatives: Ohio House Bill 322, “Regards the teaching of certain current events, race and sex." House Bill 327, “Prohibit teaching, advocating, or promoting divisive concepts."  Both bills will have implications for how social studies teachers in the state of Ohio teach their courses. It is recommended that you read over the bills and/or their analysis before taking the survey. To avoid bias, the questions use the original language of the bills. See links to the bills and analyses below. The underlined portions of each bill are the proposed changes to state statute that the bills seek to amend.
