MapSO Makers Robotics
This program is run by Maplewood parent Brad Schenker and Maplewood community member (and SOMS Choir teacher) Jake Ezzo. Our goal is to give as many kids in our community an opportunity to learn about coding, engineering and problem-solving.
This program consists of a group Community teams that are led by volunteer parents with support form MapSO Makers. Teams tend to form around a group of friends and/or siblings. Each team requires two adults to coach and all parents can help.
Most parents have ZERO experience in STEM or Robotics. If you are good with managing a group of kids, can help them set goals and facilitate meetings, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!
FLL Challenge teams are for 5th-8th graders. Friendly competition is at the heart of Challenge, as teams of students engage in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO robot that navigates the missions of a robot game. Teams meet for about 2-hours, 1-2 times a week, based on the teams own availability.
The FLL Explore program is for kids 6-10. Teams of students focus on the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design, and code, and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO® Education. Teams can be successful meeting one time a week for 60-90 minutes
Th season starts at the beginning of the school year and runs through December depending on the competition schedule. The program is not directly affiliated with the school district. Teams meet in homes and there is use of the CHS Robotics room.
