Medford’s Home Rule Petition to form a local Charter Review Commission will be discussed at a public hearing on Wednesday, June 23rd. The State’s Joint Committee on Election Laws will discuss the Home Rule Petition as part of the day’s session, beginning at 10:00am. Public testimony will be accepted through Friday, June 25th at 3:00pm, or residents can also express support by adding your name to this petition, which the City will submit this week.

Mayor Lungo-Koehn submitted the Home Rule Petition to the State in January, following approval by the Medford City Council. Through the Home Rule Petition, Medford would be authorized to create a 9-member Commission to review and redraft the City’s Charter, which sets forth the structure, representation, and responsibilities of Medford’s city government.  

Medford's Charter has not been substantially reviewed or updated in nearly 40 years.
