Delta GEMS stands for Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully and was a brand new initiative implemented last year from Delta Sigma Theta National Headquarters. A natural outgrowth and expansion for the continuation of the highly successful "Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy: "Catching the Dreams of Tomorrow", Delta GEMS was created to "catch the dreams" of African American at-risk, adolescent girls aged 15-18 and/or grades 9 - 12. Delta GEMS is designed to serve as an outgrowth and continuation of the Delta Academy Program. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through performance of specific tasks that develop a "CAN DO" attitude.
