The Business Tutoring Center is looking for new Student Tutors who have excellent business subject matter knowledge and reading and analytical writing skills, as well as the ability to mentor students and work cooperatively with faculty and other Student Tutors. Tutors will be expected to meet with students in one-on-one appointments to help them master difficult subject matter by offering knowledge, support, and effective strategies.
Directions (Read thoroughly before submitting this application):
1. Complete this online application.
2. Email a 2 - 5 page writing sample (usually an essay from a recently completed course - does not need to be a business course) to
weidenbenner_nathan@smc.edu. This piece of writing should best exemplify your skills in critical thinking and writing. Note that one longer coherent text, rather than several shorter texts is preferred but not mandatory. The sample can be from any class. It does not have to even be on a subject for which you want to tutor. The point of the writing sample is to get a better idea of how you write and/or think and communicate. It also gives me a sense of your style. It's not intended to be "proof" that you are an expert in a specific subject.
The title of the email and the writing sample should read: "Your Last Name Student Tutor Writing Sample" (For example, Weidenbenner Student Tutor Writing Sample). Remember that labeling your email incorrectly could cause it to slip through the cracks, so make sure to double check the title before you send.
3. Remember to reach out to your reference to let them know we will be asking them to fill out a recommendation form.
