It may feel like spring, but for us here at Headliners in Education, we are making the call:
Summer is officially here. (Yay!)
And with the change in seasons, it is time for ...
HEADLINERS OF SUMMER: YEAR 3 (Yay Yay YAY!!!)
The signup form is below. But first an explainer...
What exactly is "Headliners of Summer and why?
The why is because when school ends two things usually happen: Students have plenty of time on their hands, and school newspapers shut down until fall.
This is where we come in. Headliners of Summer is a (free) program that is a (virtual) newsroom in which students from K through college graduates from (literally) all over the world can (remotely) work together.
We have already done this for two years and it is pretty fantastic. And there's nothing like this anywhere.
There is no requirement to participate ... but there's also no limit to how much you can do.
The students come up with their own assignments, report and write stories, take pictures, edit copy, write headlines, publish on the web for readers from around the world. We meet weekly (and virtually) to discuss stories and meet guests. We will publish often (
https://hieshowcase.com/category/headliners-of-summer/) -- but all of the stories can be repurposed for hometown school and community publications, too.
Last year, we had 60 students from 16 states and five countries, from elementary school through post-college, working as journalists, reporting on things like politics and social issues, sports and entertainment, food and fashion, interviewing interesting people and shooting pictures and writing stories and creating amazing content for readers around the world.
If you are excited about all things student journalism and want to spend some time doing realllllllly cool stuff all over the world, well, then sign up below!
And if you are of college (or post-college) age and want to take a leadership role -- and make some money, too -- as a group leader, well, then sign up below!
