Community Chaplaincy Cohort Application
The Order of Saint Hildegard

This application process is new. Our program is "in Beta."

If you have not, please get to know us by visiting our website at www.orderofhildegard.org
(and on Facebook/Insta/TikTok) or by reaching out to us.  Subscribe to our emails... Figure out what we are all about.

Mission: The Order of Hildegard is an unaffiliated community of practice which exists to center, affirm and develop the interfaith cross-vocational spiritual leadership of those marginalized by traditional religious structures such as LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, people with disabilities and neuro diversities and those otherwise disillusioned with harmful, puritanical patriarchal religious structures. We transform public and private spiritual ethics and practices in a wide range of settings and traditions, cultivating a vibrant, widespread community while sharing resources for the thriving of our members and to impact the larger culture.

Non-Discrimination Policy "The Order of Saint Hildegard does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion(creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation or military status in any of its activities or operations."  This policy should be understood in the context of our mission.

Please take your time and answer the questions fully.  Many factors will be considered, but prompt reply is helpful in selection process.

We do not guarantee acceptance into our program based solely on your available resources to invest. We decide to proceed with any applicant on a case-by-case basis and in awareness of our current capacities and resources as wellOur process is one of mutual consent and co-creation.  A "not at this time" response in no way indicates someone's abilities, call or value. Applicants are free to apply at a later date for subsequent cohorts or may receive notification that they are on a waiting list for a future cohort for a number of reasons including specialized chaplaincy group formation, commonalities such as schedule or overflow of capacity.

If adaptive services or additional time is needed, we will mutually strategize ways to meet your needs within the capacities of our small but growing organization.

Your information is confidential and will only be seen by the members of our core board.

What is your spiritual or religious background, if any? Bullet points are fine if you prefer.  *
What adjectives would you use to describe your relationship with the Christian church?  *
Do you have a religion, spirituality or denomination you consider yourself connected to and identified with at this time? *
Tell us a little bit about key elements of your vocational or work history that influence this decision to apply, if any.  Paragraph or bullet points are fine.  *
Share with us a moment in which everything changed for you. In which something old died and something new was born. *
Have you ever been entangled in any sort of public conflict in which you were victimized, you possibly caused damage to another, or both? This question is not asked to exclude you or challenge you, but to help us be aware of potential questions to our organization so we can navigate them in our support of your healing if it applies in the future. Share as much or as little as you feel comfortable in this space, or request a chat about it. The more we know, the better we can all work together.  *
In your experience, what has been the most important lesson in leadership that you've ever had? Keep in mind that our understanding of leadership isn't about power or titles.  *
Are you actively recovering from any abusive or traumatic situation? If so, how are you receiving outside support and accountability in your recovery? *
Can you commit about 4 hours a week on average to dedicate to becoming a community chaplain in 2 years time?

*
Will you work with the chaplaincy program and with your cohort to be as flexible as possible with regard to scheduling some aspects of the program? *
Do you have any disabilities or exceptional circumstances that we should know about and make accommodations for in an online learning environment or in other requirements of the program?

(We will incorporate a variety of learning styles and will not use grades, but dynamic feedback. So some experiences will work better for each individual than others. We only ask that you engage dynamically as well).
*
We will have a variety of people join this program because we do not require seminary degrees, religious uniformity, or common creed. Are you prepared to learn from different perspectives, stretch yourself and speak authentically but without dehumanization to your cohort colleagues, and be patient with the process of removing old patterns from new spaces of belonging?

*
The first chaplaincy cohorts are somewhat experimental. . Because of this, we are offering this chaplaincy program at a reduced rate.

We do, however hold some things sacred: We ask that you show up as a chaplain is expected to in the world: with respect, courage, boundaries and authenticity.

Specifically, we aim daily towards:

Courage and Reconciliation,

Authenticity and Awareness,

Presence and Embodiment.

Are you willing to aim, even in this early stage of the Order of Saint Hildegard, to honor these values daily?

*
Do you have access to a dependable internet connection, and a computer with which to participate and manage your activities? *
What concerns do you have about making this application? Please feel free to be authentic. *
Would your preferred credential be as a Chaplain? We are also considering one or two alternate credentials to choose from for graduates of the program such as a Community Spiritual Leadership Certificate.

*
Are you interested in ordination as a part of this process?
*
At this time, what area of community chaplaincy/vocation is most alive for you? If you don't have a vocational passion at this time to build community around, are you interested in one of our tracks for which we have preset resources such as Eco-Chaplaincy, LGBTQIA2S+ Justice, Womens' Empowerment, Religious Trauma Resilience, Movement and Embodiment, Community Justice (in several varieties), or Artist Chaplaincy? It is ok if you don't know yet. The program will be tailored to any track you chose that we can approve and find resources and mentors for with your help.
The cost of the next cohort will be $3700 for the full two years. This lower price approach is available for the first two or three subgroups. We expect that price rise a bit for subsequent cohorts. As our second cohort, you will help us set standards and will be a part of our earliest leadership pipeline for the community.  Are you able to submit a deposit of $800 immediately upon acceptance (approximately 1 week from acceptance date?)

**You have one month to drop the program for a 50% refund (the deposit is non-refundable). Between one and two months,  80% of the remaining fees are non refundable. After two months the full fee is non refundable. Whatever payment arrangements have been made must be completed as/per above. A pause in studies for a crisis can be arranged.

The final amount can be paid in full within the first three months or broken into several payments by arrangement.

Please check the box below indicating that you understand the payment arrangements.

(If you would like to inquire about a scholarship, please write to frances@orderofhildegard.org requesting more info and indicating what amount you can invest and how often you could make payments. We have some internships available as well. Approval for scholarship depends on availability of funds and may require that you delay enrollment until funds are available.)
