OCARE - Online Community Action Research Experience Application
Community organizations play an important role in supporting children and families; however, they are often limited in the resources that they have to do so.  This research experience is your chance to support a community organization and help make a difference for not only the organization, but for the people it serves!  You will have a chance to develop, practice, and use research skills to understand a problem or question the community organization has and work collaboratively towards a solution or answer.  A central goal of this partnership approach to research is to build mutually respectful and trusting relationships grounded in an equitable and empowering process emphasizing communication, information sharing, and joint decision making. You will receive training and mentoring throughout the process from instructors and graduate students.

Please briefly describe why you are interested in taking this course, including how you think it might help you in your personal, academic, and/or professional goals. *
Because this course involves working with a real community organization that has real needs for the research/information students in this course will provide, it is important that all students who register are committed to actively participating in this course.  Students will be expected to devote approximately 18 hours per week to this course.   Students should be prepared to engage in course activities for the full time commitment, including time spent reading, viewing content, completing assignments, meeting with community partners, communicating (e.g., checking/responding to email and course communication daily), and more.  This will ensure that we have sufficient opportunities to learn, explore, and collaborate (peer-peer, student-instructor), advancing our research efficiently and effectively. *
