This is a survey to understand customers attitude towards purchasing an automobile safety system which can prevent accidents caused due to distracted or drowsy driving and at the same to provide additional driver assistance features.

The problems we are trying to solve are:
  • Road accidents caused due to drowsy driving.
  • Lack of inbuilt safety and assistive features available in many existing and new vehicles.

We as a team are working on a feasible technological solution to counter act the ill effects of drowsy driving. The proposed product is an innovative, reliable, and cost-effective autonomous braking system that can be incorporated into automobiles as an external fitment to reduce accidents caused due to driver drowsiness. Our proposed solution will be beneficial to the common people who use their private automobiles or public transportation services to execute long-distance journeys.

Brief Description of the technological solution:

The technological solution is a unique and competitively priced autonomous system that uses computer vision technology to monitor driver's behaviour, and the novel detection system not only generates an alarm in the case of drowsy driving, but it also provides for the means of an automated braking system that is economic and easy to install while not invasive on the existing brake and clutch configurations of automobiles. 

Current Features of the Prototype:
  • Driver alert system during drowsiness/ unconsciousness during any time. (day/night conditions).
  • Surrounding drivers’ alert system to alert surrounding drivers and prevent external collisions.
  • Dash cam footage at all times which can be accessed later on in the case of any accident-related event.
  • Automated braking for both manual and automatic transmission vehicles. (To slowly reduce the speed of the vehicle)

The objective of the developing this product:

  • To reduce the no. of sleep-related or distracted driver-related accidents.
  • To reduce economic impacts caused due to accidents occurring due to Drivers falling asleep or getting distracted behind the wheel.
  • To make better safety features more accessible to common people.

Current features provided by the product are:
1. Driver behaviour monitoring and alert: Warnings are provided in the events of unresponsive drivers. Alarms for driver and hazard lights for surrounding drivers are provided.
2. Automated braking during drowsy driving: If the driver falls asleep or is unconscious, self-braking can be implemented upon receiving a signal from a controller unit.
