Harvest dates are:
- September 16 and 17
- September 23 and 24
- September 30 and October 1
- October 7 and 8 (if needed)
- Harvest is usually 9:am to 5:00 pm. Please bring water and a lunch, we have a beautiful garden and picnic tables to rest at. We also have bathrooms on site. Some people do multiple days others do a half day (half day is 9:00 to 12:30 or 1:00 to 5:00).
Frequently Asked Questions
-How man people do you need? We ideally would have 100 people each weekend, 50 per day, for 3-4 weekends, so bring the whole hockey team, work groups, neighbors etc. Please share and bring as many folks as you can!
- What Ages? You can bring your family of all ages, 2-92, its great for kids to learn about where food comes from.
- Whats the task? The main task is collecting potatoes from on top of the ground (a machine digs them and shakes the dirt off), put them in a pail, then dump into bigger box.
-What to Wear? Things you can get dirty in, boots are an asset as you will be walking in a field
-What to bring? Gloves if you have, sunscreen, drinks/water, snacks, and anything else you would need outside for the day.
-Are there bathrooms on site? YES!
-Where do the Potatoes Go? Our volunteers get to keep a couple for their families, but the vast majority goes to the Edmonton Food Bank, and others in need.
-Weather? If its raining more than a sprinkle, or snowing, we may postpone part or all of the day.
