All writing classes use the editing process to teach grammar, spelling punctuation, organization, vocabulary, and critical thinking. All of these classes are challenging at their targeted grade levels.
Writing 2-5 - Aimed at grades 3 and 4, this class covers persuasive, literary response, creative, and personal narrative writing. This class is open to strong 2nd graders who love reading chapter books. 5th graders who need extra help or who have not taken a class with us should consider starting here.
Writing 4-7 - Aimed at grades 5 and 6, this class covers persuasive, literary response, creative, and personal narrative writing. This class is open to strong 4th graders who love to read. 7th graders who need extra help or who have not taken a class with us should consider starting here.
Writing 7-9 - Aimed at grades 7, 8, and 9, this class focuses on persuasive and literary response writing, while also covering creative, and personal narrative writing. 9th graders who need extra help or who have not taken a class with us should STRONGLY consider starting here.
AP Language Writing - Aimed at grades 9 to 12, this class covers the three types of AP Language and Composition essays. This is a challenging class, so only strong 9th grade writers should join.
AP Literature Writing - Aimed at grades 9 to 12, this class covers the three types of AP Literature and Composition essays. This is a challenging class, so only strong 9th grade writers should join.
All reading classes use group reading and discussions to teach comprehension, phonics, pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and analysis.
Reading 2-5 - Aimed at students who already read chapter books like Magic Tree House.
Reading 4-7 - Aimed at students who already read chapter books like the works of Beverly Cleary, we read and discuss novels to improve in comprehension, phonics, pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and analysis.
Reading 7-9 - Aimed at students who already read chapter books like The Hunger Games, we read and discuss novels to improve in comprehension, phonics, pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and analysis.
Reading 9-12 - Aimed at students who need to read classics for honors and AP high school courses, we read and discuss novels to improve in comprehension, vocabulary, and analysis.
SAT/ACT - Aimed at students who will take the SAT and/or ACT, this class covers all sections of both exams but focuses on language arts skills.
Private - Work one on one to improve in language arts, math, science, SAT, and ACT. We provide help with schoolwork or use our own curriculum. Private courses are customized to individual needs.
