MWF Application for Assistance

At the Mama Wilder Foundation, we understand that the journey you are on, while not unique, can feel overwhelming and isolating. Whether you are exiting an abusive relationship, have experienced financial abuse, or are facing unexpected hardships post-decree, we commend your courage in seeking help and advocating for yourself and your children.

Before You Apply, Please Read:

  • Emergency Assistance: We are not a crisis intervention agency. If you are in immediate danger, please contact 911. 
  • Please look through our RESOURCES page for information we think might be incredibly helpful.
  • If you don't have a personal checking account, we cannot provide direct cash assistance. Your local credit union or bank can help you open a free or low-cost checking account, often available entirely online. If you don't have a bank account, we are, however, able to assist in other ways such as grocery delivery/pickup.
  • Basic Needs: For food assistance, medical care, or employment support, please visit the SNAP State Directory of Resources for government-sponsored programs in your state. 
  • Civil Protection Orders: If you have experienced violence or threats of violence, contact your local courthouse or law enforcement to apply for a civil protection order. These applications are typically free and do not require criminal charges. 
    • Many times, recipients of restraining orders have not experienced physical violence. The mere threat of violence can often be enough to elicit a judge to issue a restraining order. 
    • For information on filing fee waivers and self-help resources for survivors of domestic violence, consider contacting your local courthouse.
  • Women's Shelter: For information on local women's shelters or your state’s Address Confidentiality Program (ACP), visit domesticshelters.org. ACP programs help survivors keep their addresses confidential from abusers.  
We Are Unable to Fund:
  • Family law legal retainers. If you can no longer afford your attorney, ask them about self-representation and payment plans. To find an attorney in your budget, visit legalmatch.com.
  • Relocations without a court order.
  • Applications submitted on behalf of others.
If you have an active fundraising campaign, we ask that you share that with us.
