Volunteer Role Descriptions

Please note that training will be provided where necessary.

Volunteers will receive free access to the event on all competition days they volunteer for, a volunteer shirt and access to food and beverages during their shifts.


General Volunteers

Set Up/Pack Down Assistants – not code specific
A large number of volunteers are needed to assist with setting up and breaking down the competition equipment on Monday 30th September and Sunday 6th October. While no previous experience is required, you must be physically prepared for heavy lifting.

Volunteer Manager Assistants – not code specific
The Volunteer Assistant will work with the Volunteer Manager/s to ensure all volunteer positions are filled on the day, volunteer needs are looked after and, where appropriate, ensure volunteers are trained. Previous experience managing a team is preferred.

Ticket Scanners – not code specific
Ticket scanners are stationed at the entrances to the spectator areas and are responsible for checking spectator tickets as well as welcoming people to the event. No previous experience is required.


All Codes

Marshals – all codes
Marshals are responsible for organising athletes into their order of competition and escorting them from the warm-up/marshalling area to the competition area and vice versa. Some knowledge of the code for which volunteers are marshalling is required.

Music – Aerobics, Rhythmic & Women’s Artistic Gymnastics
Music operators are responsible for playing the music for athletes’ routines as well as the march in music. They work closely with the announcer and floor manager. No previous experience/knowledge is required.

Announcers – all codes
Announcers are responsible for welcoming spectators to the venue and keeping them informed throughout the day, as well as introducing athletes as they enter the competition area to compete. While some knowledge of the code for which volunteers are announcing is helpful, it is not necessary.


Artistic Volunteers

Equipment Assistants – Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics
Equipment Assistants are responsible for ensuring the Artistic Gymnastics equipment is correctly set up for the athletes. Physical strength and knowledge of how to adjust equipment is required.  

Recorders – Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics
Recorders work closely with the Artistic Results Manager, inputting the judges’ scores for each athlete into laptops. Volunteers need to have recorded at a minimum of two previous Artistic Gymnastics competitions or be a minimum of an Elementary WAG or MAG judge.
PROVINCIAL REQUIREMENT:  Each province is required to supply a recorder for at least 2 sessions each day.  Small provinces may apply for dispensation to not supply a recorder. (see Nationals Newsletter #2 for more details).

Video Recorders – Artistic
Video recorders are situated in the competition area and record athletes’ routines. No previous experience/knowledge is required.

Trampoline

Trampoline Spotters
Trampoline spotters are responsible for breaking the fall of athletes if they come off the trampolines, and as such, are integral to ensuring the safety of the athletes. Spotters need to be physically fit adults able to concentrate for extended periods of time. Previous experience spotting is preferred, but training will be provided.
PROVINCIAL REQUIREMENT:  Each Province is required to supply a spotter for at least 2 sessions each day.  Small provinces may apply for dispensation to not supply a spotter (see Nationals Newsletter #2 for more details).


Aerobics and Rhythmic
 
Runners – Aerobics and Rhythmic Only
Runners can be involved in a range of tasks at the event from collecting judging sheet after each competitor performs to distributing run lists to announcers and marshals. This role does not require any previous experience/knowledge and is ideal for younger volunteers.

Video Recorders – Aerobics and Rhythmic
Video recorders are situated in the competition area and record athletes’ routines. No previous experience/knowledge is required.
