Registration - live panel debate: Navigating smoothly from an academic to a non-academic career (16 May, 12 - 1:30 PM)
Nearly 9 out of 10 PhD degree holders in Flanders leave the academic nest to build a career in the non-academic labour market. In the current knowledge-driven economy and society, there is a high demand for employees who are creative, innovative, agile, critical, …. problem-solvers. They are wanted for exactly the same qualities that make researchers thrive in academia.

Despite these good career prospects, the transition to a non-academic career does not always run smoothly, and for many is a venture into the unknown. The Ghent University Postdoc Community organises this live panel debate to give participants useful insight into the broad spectrum of career opportunities beyond academe, and to provide inspiration on how to successfully transfer to the non-academic job market.

Whom & what to expect? Speakers who have first-hand experience in building a career beyond academia will share:
- insights into relevant career paths for PhD degree holders;
- a clear view on the strengths of PhD degree holders in the non-academic labour market, the skills they still need to develop, and the expected learning curve;
- useful tips & tricks

Speakers are dr. Wouter Rogiest (Patentales), dr. Renaat De Sutter (Haedes), dr. Kristof Vermote (Schelstraete Delacourt Associaties), dr. Roberta Guagliardo (GSK), dr Kasper Ossenblok (Kabinet B. Somers), dr.  Sundar Singaravel (Bricsys)
