In this original piece conceived in collaboration with MAPP_MTL, Elle Barbara reimagines the parameters of political rallying in a post-COVID world with synchronous outdoor video installations set across Tio’tia:ke, to raise awareness on the erasure of Black trans women and girls."

How the work will be shown: The video will play on a loop for 3 hours starting at 6:00 PM in 4 different boroughs (AHUNTSIC, COTE-DES NEIGES, ST-MICHEL, MILE-END) in the the Tio'tia:ke / Montreal area, simultaneously. Volunteers without cars will meet up with volunteers with cars in a more central meeting place and be driven to their location.

This is a public protest for Black trans women in the context of COVID 19. We're looking for volunteers and allies to show up for Black trans women and girls by helping us take up significant public space through this this multi-borough, 3 hour video installation and momentous event. Please fill out this form if you are able to be present for the event (including set up / take down ) and / or if you have gear that you're willing to lend. Thank you so much!

Gear needed at each location:
-A Car
-A projector
-A laptop
-An inverter silent generator

Your role as a volunteer:
-You will be in a team of (at least) 3, we will give you the proper gear & training on how to set up your station prior to the event.
-We will assign you your location (at least 3 volunteers per location so you won't be alone) and you will all be in charge of projecting visuals & sound.
-Keep social distancing measures in mind as much as possible, wear masks the whole time and bring hand sanitizer.
-You will show up at a central meeting spot to either meet the person driving you (if you don't gave a car) or to pick up the other volunteers (if you do have a car).
-Throughout the event, your task would be to make sure the projections are running smoothly, communicate any issues that come up to the Slut Island coordinators, and to keep a close eye on the gear to ensure it isn't being stolen or damaged.
-Protests are legal, even in the context of COVID 19, but there is a chance of police presence and in this case you or someone on your team will need to explain the event.
-As this is an event that centers Black Trans Women and it is being shown in un-gentrified areas, it is likely that you will have confrontations with the public and you should be prepared for this to happen (this will be discussed further once volunteers are confirmed).
