From genetic studies and molecular simulations to AI, scientific computing has enabled amazing discoveries and there is no doubt it will continue to do so. However, the corresponding environmental impact is a growing concern in light of the urgency of the climate crisis, and there is widespread interest in the research community; so what can we all do about it?
This is our first effort to bring together a community of people interested in Environmentally Sustainable Computational Research. The goal is to have a platform to connect, debate, share events and best practices etc.. We hope to bring together a wide range of people in this: researchers, software engineers, sustainability experts, HPC experts, institution leaders, students... All fields of research and industry very welcome!
We are starting with this mailing list to understand the best way to structure such a Community of Practice moving forward. If you are interested in this, just enter your email below and we will be in touch as this develops (we will keep emails to a minimum of course). You can also share your thoughts below about the best medium to host it (wisdom of crowds..).
