Conditions of Agreement
  • To ensure that any STCM student is made aware of the risks associated with being the custodian of a Chromebook.
  • To ensure that the STCM student allocated a Chromebook assumes an appropriate level of responsibility for STCM property.
Prior to allocation of a Chromebook, the student and parent/carer must answer the questions below which indicates compliance with all statements listed. Chromebooks issued to students remain the property of St Cuthbert Mayne School.  When the Chromebook is allocated to the student, the student assumes temporary “custodianship” of the Chromebook.  The school, through an appropriate, delegated member of staff, may request the student to return the Chromebook to the IT Support Department at any point.

Policy Information
  • Students will be issued with a Chromebook that has been securely configured by the IT Support Department.
  • Chromebooks may be recalled to allow for maintenance and upgrades.
  • Students must agree to take shared responsibility for the security of the Chromebook and the information it contains.
  • All devices are monitored on or off the school network via appropriate monitoring software. This software alerts the school of any inappropriate content being accessed on the Chromebook, even if it is used at home. Students must ensure that the device is used appropriately in all settings.
  • Students must ensure they comply with data protection requirements.
  • Students must take good care of the Chromebook. Common sense applies here: not dropping machines, logging off from the Chromebook correctly before switching off, storing away from strong magnetic fields, keeping the Chromebook in its case at appropriate times.
  • Chromebooks must not be personalised with stickers, drawn on, etc.
  • Students must contact the IT Support Department should they experience any faults with the Chromebook during your custodianship of the Chromebook.
  • Students must contact the IT Support Department  to report loss or damage to the Chromebook.
  • Students must ensure that Chromebook is charged appropriately so that it can be used during lesson times.
  • STCM or the IT Support Department is not responsible for any loss of personal data stored on the Chromebook due to faults, damage etc.
  • Chromebooks should not be left in vehicles overnight.
  • Avoid leaving the Chromebook in sight of a ground floor window.
  • Be careful not to bump or drop your Chromebook, do not carry items with it that could harm it and do not put any objects on top of it.  The case provided is not made to support extra weight.
  • Avoid subjecting the Chromebook to extreme temperature changes.  Components can become very brittle and easy to break in extreme temperatures.  As a general rule, your Chromebook is safest at temperatures that are comfortable for you.
  • Keep all liquids away from your Chromebook.  Almost any liquid spilt on the Chromebook can result in extremely expensive repairs.
  • Repair costs for damaged Chromebooks will be expected to be settled by the student and/or parent/carer before being re-released. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • At the end of the loan period, Chromebooks will need to be returned in a good, working condition to minimise the delay in the release of examination results.
Users must ensure they comply with data copyright requirements.
  • Due to the provisions of the Copyright Act, and the various copyright licences that apply, it is important that users confirm their entitlement to copy materials before doing so.
